Oyster Restoration

The CREB Conservancy supports native oyster restoration. Native oysters filter and clean our waters and their resurgence is an essential component of river health. We are seeking volunteers to promote ongoing oyster restoration programs, and to engage and assist dock owners to grow oyster spat on their piers.

Currently the State of Maryland is engaged in a pilot program on the Tred Avon River, soliciting waterfront property owners to accept oyster cages filled with oyster stock, to grow those oysters and eventually return them to sanctuaries. CREB Conservancy applauds this program, which is free, and hopes that it will be expanded.

Additionally, the State of Maryland currently offers a $500 tax credit to any citizen for the purchase of oyster spat floats. Anyone can purchase the floats and spats, grow our native oysters, and receive a tax credit. CREB Conservancy would like to see every dock owner participate in this program.
